Michelle began her legal career in 1998 with a small general litigation firm in Edmonton before heading south to the Calgary office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. In 2002, she joined Carbert Waite LLP and became a partner in 2018.
Michelle maintains an active civil and commercial litigation practice. Michelle’s primary areas of focus are employment law, health law and commercial litigation.
Michelle’s extensive health law experience includes representation of hospitals and health professionals in medical negligence cases and at fatality inquiries.
Michelle is experienced in representing employers and employees in employment law matters under both federal and provincial jurisdiction. Michelle is a highly skilled and experienced employment lawyer, providing advice and advocacy in a wide range of employment matters including: arbitrations, negotiations, discrimination investigations, sexual harassment, wrongful dismissal, disability claims, benefits disputes, terminations, executive employment contracts, and workplace policy drafting.
Michelle’s commercial litigation experience includes oil and gas litigation, contract disputes, collections and shareholder disputes.
Michelle has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and the Federal Court of Canada.
