About Us

Carbert Waite LLP was founded in 1999 as a boutique firm focused on litigation. With additional expertise in estate planning and business law, we provide our clients with trusted insight and innovative solutions. We are skilled advocates with experience in a wide range of legal disputes. Our approach is always client centred and service minded.

With lawyers at all levels of experience, we are able to provide cost-effective legal services customized to meet the needs of the particular case. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We take the time needed to understand our clients’ particular needs and goals and then set about to design a strategy to resolve the dispute as effectively and efficiently as possible.

At Carbert Waite LLP we have an entrepreneurial spirit and a flexible approach to the practice of law and our relationships with our clients. We are open to alternative billing arrangements based on clients’ needs.

We are also proud of our culture and approach to the practice of law. We believe in the value of working hard for our clients but also recognize the need for our lawyers and staff to have balance in their lives. We are a family oriented firm and enjoy each other’s company. We have flexible work arrangements and several part-time lawyers (partners and associates). Building diversity in our lawyers and staff is a focus for us and we believe that a diverse team allows us to better serve our clients.

Recognized Expertise

We are proud to announce that Carbert Waite LLP has been recognized in the 2025 edition of the Chambers Canada Guide for our work in commercial litigation in Alberta.

Management

Stacy Koehler

Stacy Koehler

Chief Operating Officer

Stacy is currently on administrative leave.

Stacy has been with Carbert Waite LLP since early 2014. She has worked in the Calgary legal field for over 20 years and has had the opportunity to contribute in leadership roles at National, Regional and local firms during that time. While possibly biased, Stacy is completely confident Carbert Waite is the best litigation firm in the city.

As a past president, Stacy remains active in the Calgary Association of Legal Administrators. She is also involved in a variety of programs with the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association and is a past mentor with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Alberta.

Carbert Waite LLP has provided Stacy with the opportunity to test and refine her long held management theory that the development and nurturing of healthy work relationships, strong communication, transparent leadership and heaps of humor will provide an ideal work environment. She remains convinced she is right.

In between providing shuttle services to many, many (so many) sports and after school commitments, Stacy enjoys spending time with her family sharing her love of animals, the outdoors and the arts.

Executive Committee

Roxanne Davis

Managing Partner

Roxanne joined the firm in 2008 when she moved to Calgary for her husband’s work. Roxanne’s legal career to that point had her gradually migrating west from her roots on the east coast. She considers herself fortunate that the firm was willing to take a chance that she would put down roots in Calgary rather than continuing the westward migration.

At the office, Roxanne can often be found roaming the halls looking for someone to brainstorm with or to give her feedback on an idea or strategy. She appreciates the firm’s collaborative work practices and is happy to return the favour for her colleagues.

When she is not at the office, Roxanne enjoys travelling with family and friends, relieving stress and anxiety in her garden, and making baby quilts and afghans for the ever growing Carbert Waite family.

Michael Waite, K.C.

Firm Chairperson - Partner

When Mike is not travelling the world, “working from the lake” or at the rink watching his boys play hockey, he is the Firm Chairperson of Carbert Waite LLP. Mike doesn’t adhere to any particular management style, at least not on purpose. Mike believes in building consensus and then taking decisive action. Mike enjoys working in a team environment especially when it means he can delegate tasks he doesn’t like. Since joining the firm in 2003, Mike has been instrumental in growing the firm to where it is today. Mike believes in leading by example, particularly when it comes to mentoring and giving back to the community. Mike’s office door is always open and is often revolving with staff, associates and partners seeking out “world according to Mike” pearls of wisdom. Often wrong but never uncertain, Mike is never happier than when providing strategic advice to other lawyers on their files. He dispenses this wisdom firm in the knowledge that if the strategy works it will be because of his sage advice and if it doesn’t it will be because of extraneous factors entirely unrelated to the advice.

Collaborative work defines Dylan’s work with both clients and colleagues, and like the other lawyers at Carbert Waite, his office is often a place of discussion, debate, brain-storming, and story telling.  Beyond working with people, Dylan also believes in working with spreadsheets and databases.
