Biography
William is a partner at Carbert Waite and maintains a commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice with a focus on the areas of shareholder litigation, corporate and investment fraud, construction disputes, and employment law. With a diverse background in commercial and civil litigation, William has successfully represented clients across various disputes and has appeared before numerous courts and tribunals across Canada. He also possesses valuable experience as an arbitrator, mediator and negotiator and while he enjoys appearing in Court, when necessary, his focus is always on finding a pragmatic and sensible solution for his clients’ disputes.
In his employment law practice, William has represented both employers and employees at all levels of Court in Alberta. His expertise includes constructive dismissal, human rights, occupational health and safety, termination of employment, workplace bullying and harassment, workplace investigations, and wrongful dismissal matters.
In addition to his legal practice, William is deeply committed to education and his community. For the past five years, he has contributed to teaching the Civil Procedure course at the University of Calgary Law School, a core requirement for all law students. He actively facilitates mooting and debating programs throughout Calgary, mentoring students ranging from primary school to undergraduates, including those at the University of Calgary Law School.
William is currently appointed to the Hearing tribunal of the Real Estate Council of Alberta where he adjudicates administrative matters arising with realtor, mortgage broker, and property management disputes.
Outside of work Will is a father to three wonderful daughters and enjoys camping, hiking, running, skiing, and all forms of team sports. When not in the office, he likes staying active and spending time with his family and friends.
