We are thrilled to announce that Carbert Waite sponsored The Hangar Flight Museum’s National Aviation Day and National Aviation Weekend, which took place from February 23 to 25, 2024. Carbert Waite is a regular supporter of The Hangar Flight Museum and is excited to partake in this year’s festivities along with members of the community.
The Hangar Flight Museum is home to Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame, which highlights the incredible stories of those who pioneered our country’s aviation history. It is located in a drill hall that was built in the context of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan during the Second World War and houses historically significant and technologically intriguing aircraft.
National Aviation Day is a yearly celebration of the first powered flight in Canada. On February 23, 1909, the Silver Dart flew over Baddeck Bay in Nova Scotia. This event occurred just five years after the Wright brothers first took flight at Kitty Hawk and was the first witnessed flight in the British Empire. Douglas McCurdy, a young engineer, piloted the aircraft under the watch of Alexander Graham Bell.
In 2024, The Hangar Flight Museum is also commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). This is an excellent time to gain a deeper understanding of Canada’s aviation history. We invite you to visit the Hangar Flight Museum as it is sure to entertain and educate the entire family!
