Blair Carbert’s Appointment as Queen’s Counsel 2022

Carbert Waite LLP is pleased to announce that Blair Carbert has been appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) by the Lieutenant Governor in Council of Alberta, on the recommendation of Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Tyler Shandro. Appointment of Queen’s Counsel is a recognition awarded to those lawyers who demonstrate essential contributions to their legal profession, exceptional quality of leadership, and integrity, among other considerations.

In Alberta, a screening committee composed of court and legal community members makes recommendations for appointment to the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.

Blair’s appointment demonstrates his professionalism, commitment to his community, and service as a leader in the legal and broader community. With more than 35 years of practice that has taken him to Canada’s three coasts, Blair was a co-founder of Stones Fontaine Carbert, a firm that grown to Carbert Waite LLP. He has experience advising and acting for individuals, corporations, estates, public institutions, and governments. He has argued numerous cases in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Federal Court, and the Federal Court of Appeal. He has also served as a Committee  member of the Law Society of Alberta for several years, and has served as principal to seven articling students.

In addition, he has taken an active role as part of different non-profit organizations, including his current position as volunteer President of Speed Skating Canada. He is also a Board Member of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Calgary.
