Carbert Waite LLP was delighted to attend the 2015 Breakfast with Champions and is proud to be a continued supporter of the Special Olympics.
This year we did not have a keynote speaker. As part of our theme of Special Olympics Calgary and the Community, a round table panel discussion. The discussion was led by Pat Steinberg from Sportsnet The Fan 960 radio. Three athletes and three mentors from the community answered questions in regards to their involvement in Special O and the community. The panel members included Deputy Chief Trevor Daroux from the Calgary Police Service representing the relationship between Special Olympics and law enforcement, Linda Marek, Marketing and Community Relations Manager from Cardel Homes representing the ongoing relationship our organization has with Cardel Homes, and Dan Vanhooren, head coach of the U of C Dinos Basketball team who was paired with one of the athletes who has been the water boy for the Basketball team there for many years.
20 celebrity athletes from the community representing a number of sports donated their time to come and support Special Olympics and host guests at the event.
The total raised this year was in excess of $45,000 which was more than expected in the current economic climate in Calgary. All of the proceeds from this event stay in Calgary and go to supporting the 870 athletes aged 2 and up, in the 32 programs that are held year round.
